Hawaiian Vacation - Part 1
Our travels the first day included waking up at 4:30am, a 3 hour layover in Portland, and then another 5 1/2 hour flight to Maui. Once we got there we waited an hour for the rental car, then headed to the Costco and Walmart in Kahului to avoid being gouged by the ridiculous cost of groceries as much as possible. All this to say it was a VERY long day before we actually got to our condo... 16 hours in all, and of those Liam slept a grand total of 1. Yuuuup. This ended up being a very bad thing. But when we landed the other McConnels were there to meet us...
look how sleepy...
Liam was so exhausted for basically the next 3 days he had trouble sleeping and eating and adjusting was just the grumpiest child I've ever met, we even briefly considered switching our tickets so we could leave early. But eventually he got more sleep and started to enjoy himself...
and learn how to sleep in the car...
These pictures are from today... we were at Kapalua Bay- it's one of our favorite beaches. It's very protected and calm and shady and has great fish. Even though we were out early, practically the first ones there, once again we ended up being there during Liam's nap and he fussed much of the time. Auntie Jeran got him to sleep for a little while Todd and I finally got to do some snorkeling.
Molokai is always in the distance, and isn't it beautiful.
Maui is definitely a different experience with a toddler, and we've probably made it harder on ourselves by keeping Liam to a fairly tight schedule. It's wonderful at home, but on vacation it's kind of a bummer. Still, we have a nice play to stay with a fabulous view... and even when we are stuck inside while Liam is taking a much needed nap, we know we are pretty lucky to be where we are.

Aloha from Nana and Poppa! So glad you all are beginning to enjoy yourselves. Loved the photos!
ReplyDeleteI am doing well, relatively speaking. Trying to be up and about a little more each day- really tired of so much sitting and laying. I thank God for His goodness!
Have a wonderful day! Our love to all!
